mind.body.soul.

I am researching for a paper at school. The paper is about body modification, body piercing specifically. My cousin Tim was a piercer and is now a licensed tattoo artist. He helped me find some sources and told me to look up the Church of Body Modification, which he helped found. They not only help modified individuals on their spiritual paths, but they are active in fighting for the rights of these people in the workplace and elsewhere.

Anyway, I was on the site and found this poem. And I really like it. So read it. And read into my mind for a few minutes.

Born Blank
By Phule

Born... birthed blank barren flesh pink with want and lust screaming at the top of my lungs declaring my arrival into life...
Taught to adapt overcome blend become a part of work, follow the rules do as your told. Imaginations death in dying...
Adulthood standing alone still barren and blank. Seeking a mark to declare myself. Me alone not anyone else. Life seeking purpose...
The hungry buzz of the evil machine declaring myself individual. Marked apart; separated from the herd, alone standing smiling...
You'll hate in a year, You'll regret it all your life. You'll never get a job, you're doomed to be a soldier ridicule flung with envy standing defiant...
Years later the buzz constant the scent of greensoap, my addiction. The feel of soft canvas breathing under my firm grip stretching it tightly...
Another day, another dollar. Another soul marked aside from others each butterfly a declaration, each rose an event horizon. Each brazen soul stepping forward...
Morals bought and sold in the corporate office. Ethics a silly course in college. Things long forgotten. Love and family lost in search for an empty promised future...
So few stand alone aside from one another yet bound together for all to see. Their temples blessed with blazon ink, implant grade steel, scorched flesh cut patterns of stretched skin... Their temples individual in their unity marked apart and bound together for the love of an ancient art.
